The CNC machining process begins with the creation of a 2D vector or 3D solid part CAD design. In this case creating a 2D spiral or a 3D half-sphere are both optional.
Important: The spiral must contain a 0,5mm stepover between the lines in order to create a smooth lens.

Preparing the CNC machine.
The CNC machine can change head pieces and contains several different drill sizes and shapes. For this design a fine mill is needed such as a 3mm end mill flute. Material Secure the plexiglass onto the milling surface.

Keep in mind that the material needs to be a minimum of 5 millimeters in order to have a strong result. The thicker the plexiglass is the stronger the lens will appear.

Sanding.
The last step is to sand and polish the lenses. Starting from 600P until 2500, one sands in a circular movement. This is a very time consuming process however it depends on how clear and fine you want the lens to be.
After approximately 1 hour of sanding the lens will have a drafting change.
Finishing off one polishes the lens with either an acrylic polisher or a copper polisher to create a crystal clear end product.
